Grass cut with a broken down mower, or a horse, or a cow on a tether, but somehow by the end of the week it would all grow back.
That grass, it is my memory of summer, lying on my back with my sister & my brothers.
I wish someone, somewhere would have said, we'd all turn out just fine.

Sometimes life takes a hard turn right, & you just can't get to sleep at night. But I know things are gonna turn out fine, even a little better in time, maybe we'll all be a little better in time.

Laugh, that's what we'd do in the basement when the fighting got so loud above it shook all the casings, but we were down those stairs, and we could make each other laugh.
Then silence, it came creeping in after & it filled up the walls, & the windows & the rafters. It took a lot out of us to ignore it all.
